Research Study
SMGI® psychological support for attention, emotion regulation and self-compassion
Do you find it hard to stay focused, stay organised or manage strong emotions in daily life?
We are inviting adults living in Australia to register their interest in a research study run by Dr. Gabriele Kohlböck (fh gesundheit, Innsbruck) and Rajkumari Navis.
About the Study
Somatic Mindful Guided Imagery® (SMGI®) was created by Gina Vance. It brings together body awareness, mindfulness and guided imagery to support self-awareness, attention and self-compassion.
This is a pilot study. IIt explores whether six online SMGI® sessions are a workable and acceptable form of support for attention, emotion regulation and self-compassion in adults who notice attention difficulties. It also gathers early feedback from participants before a larger study.
This is a psychological support programme, not a therapy or clinical treatment.
This is for you if:
✓ You are an adult aged 18 to 65 living in Australia, and are fluent in English.
✓ You notice difficulties with attention, concentration, organisation or impulse control in daily life. You do not need a diagnosis.
✓ You are able to give informed consent to take part.
✓ You have reliable internet and a device for Zoom.
This is not for you if:
✗ You are currently in an acute psychological crisis.
✗You are currently in active clinical treatment for a diagnosed mental health condition (for example psychosis, severe depression, PTSD, bipolar disorder or personality disorder). Not sure? Ask Dr. Kohlböck.
✗ You are currently having thoughts of suicide or self-harm.
✗ You have a severe or untreated substance use disorder.
What taking part involves
Six online sessions on Zoom, in English, each about 90 minutes to 2 hours, with Rajkumari Navis, certified SMGI® practitioner. The spacing is agreed with you. Sessions are usually weekly, and some people have a longer gap between them.
Three questionnaires of 15 to 20 minutes each: before your first session, after your last, and four weeks later. Between sessions 3 and 4, Dr. Kohlböck will contact you briefly to check in on your wellbeing. You can decline this.
There is no cost to take part.
Dr. Kohlböck will contact you to arrange a confidential screening conversation of about 20 minutes, to see whether the study is a good fit for you.
